Dynamic start-up Yoco’s launch aims to simplify card transactions to close the payment acceptance gap in South Africa.

Miura Systems is delighted to announce its industry leading M010 wireless card reader is now powering Yoco’s world class payments system in South Africa to help unlock fast, secure chip and PIN payments for the nation’s SMEs.

Fast-growing start-up Yoco is on a mission to simplify Point of Sale (POS) transactions for South Africa’s untapped SME market with its recent launch in October 2015.

South Africa boasts a 75% card penetration among adults but only 6% of merchants in the country have card machines as a result of an overly complex, expensive and time-consuming bank application process. Yoco’s aim is to close the country’s payment acceptance gap by enabling merchants to easily sign up and receive their reader in less than four days.

Mark Roberts, VP of Sales at Miura Systems says “We are proud to partner with this game-changing start-up to offer up our market-leading M010 device to South Africa’s fast-growing SME space.”

The Bluetooth-enabled M010 card reader connects to an Android or iOS tablet or smartphone, allowing merchants to take payments quickly, simply and securely wherever they are via a point-of-sale app.

It’s certified by Visa, MasterCard, and EMVco, comes with an all-day battery and supports “Tap and Pay” transactions for even faster sales.

Installation and ongoing management is seamless and straightforward. sales are processed in real-time by the device – engineered with Miura’s trademark eye for style and design.

Lungisa Matshoba, Co-founder and Product & Technology Director at Yoco says “In Miura, we found a hardware partner whose card readers complement our ability to build great Point of Sale Payments software. The M010 is well designed, versatile for many environments and is future proof with its contactless capability.”

The official launch of Yoco follows a successful beta programme, which included over 500 merchants actively transacting on the platform. Yoco has seen a 60% growth in transaction volume in the last month. The start-up believes its value-add comes from its choice of industry-leading card readers, its full-featured point-of-sale and business intelligence portal and dedicated, personalised support.
